HealthPlus implemented an imaging management program for in-office and high-tech testing with CareCore National (CCN) in December 2005 to pre-certify high tech imaging services. The imaging management program has added value by:
- Improving patient safety through a reduction of unnecessary and duplicative high-tech imaging
- Reducing the costs and increasing the quality of health care delivered to our members
For imaging services not requiring pre-certification, HealthPlus believes that accredited radiology facilities should be used to ensure that the technical and professional components of all diagnostics are of the highest quality. We also recognize that in order to appropriately diagnose and treat members in a timely manner, there are instances in which it is appropriate for some imaging to occur in the physician’s office. Therefore, HealthPlus allows certain CPT codes to be billed to HealthPlus by the treating physician. The codes are automatically released by physician specialty, as documented on the HealthPlus Privileging by Specialty list.
